If you feel the need to "rescue" a pet store puppy, perhaps you should considering rescuing its mother instead....meet

Betsy came to Papillon Club of America (PCA) Rescue on July 15, 2000, after spending her first 12 years in a puppy mill.

While in the mill, she was bred repeatedly, knew no human kindness, had no good food or fresh water.

She came with many health issues, including a skin condition, worms, an infected eye, sores on her body and a mouth full of rotting teeth. Her back leg had been amputated by someone or something - not a veterinarian.

After being in foster care for a little over a month and getting good food, lots of love and attention and proper vet care, Betsy was strong enough to undergo a dental in which all her remaining teeth were pulled.

The picture below was taken the day after Betsy's dental.

Love, good food, and proper care can work wonders with a Rescue in a short time. The picture on the right was taken after Betsy was in foster care approximately 4 months. You can see change in her was quite dramatic.

However, Betsy is not housetrained, has nightmares of being caged (as evidenced when her foster Mom tried to crate train her), a weak spine due to trauma and recently started having seizures.

Due to these health concerns Betsy will not be available for adoption. She will remain as a permanent resident at her foster mom's.

Updates

There are many thousands of dogs like Betsy, suffering to provide puppies for pet stores. Betsy was an adorable puppy herself once. Please, think about her when you see pet store puppies - the only way to end the suffering is to quit the purchases.
